We at MCCSA are doing our best to navigate these uncertain times. As we stand together, we will all get through this.

We would like to share some resources during this time of social distancing. For updates on the MCC denomination and encouraging words from our leadership, follow the Metropolitan Community Church Denomination Facebook page.

Dear MCCSA Family:

As a people of faith, we engage these chaotic times with both trust in God and preparation for ministry that addresses fear, realistic challenges, and safety for all people.

We have been closely monitoring and adhering to the recommendations of the CDC, the Texas Department of Health, Bexar County Department of Health, and the San Antonio Metropolitan Health Department.  Our denomination has given us a lot of guidance in this decision and it was made after careful deliberation and prayer.  It is our intention to protect our folks, particularly our most vulnerable community members. It is so important to recognize that we at MCCSA create space that doesn't put people at risk. We serve people who may be older adults, people living with HIV, people with chronic medical conditions, and maybe immuno-compromised persons.

In care for one another and in hope of slowing the pandemic, we will be cancelling in-person worship services through the end of March. We will hold worship ONLINE on Sundays at 10:00 am on Facebook and on our website.  We have also postponed all other meetings at the church until further notice.  We will be able to receive tithes and offerings through Mobile Giving and a Donate Now button on the website (More Info to come).

Please help protect yourself and your neighbors by washing your hands frequently, using hand sanitizer if soap and water isn't available, refraining from shaking hands, as well as by cleaning and disinfecting high-touch surfaces (cell phones, doorknobs, tabletops, keyboards, etc.). Each one of us can  make a difference by protecting ourselves and others.

As we continue to monitor this rapidly developing situation, we will keep you informed. We ask for your prayers for our church, our community, and our world for accurate and timely information, healthy responses, and a cure for this novel virus.

Trusting in God to see us through,
Rev. William

Prayer for a Pandemic

May we who are merely inconvenienced
Remember those whose lives are at stake
May we who have the luxury of working from home
Remember those who must choose between preserving their health or making the rent
May we who have the flexibility to care for our children when their schools close
Remember those who have no options
May we who have to cancel our trips
Remember those that have no place to go
May we who are losing our margin money in the tumult of the economic market
Remember those who have no margin at all
May we who settle in for a quarantine at home
Remember those who have no home
As fear grips our country
Let us choose love
During this time when we cannot physically wrap our arms around each other
Let us find a way to be the loving embrace of God to our neighbors.
Amen, Amen and Amen

Special Message from Rev. Dr. William H. Knight

God did not give us the spirit of fear; but of power, of love and of a sound mind.” 2Timothy 1:7 KJV

The Health Department has advised churches over 250 people to cease meeting at this time. (Being a
small church is a blessing in so many ways!) They are also advising smaller churches if they choose to meet to do so with a “sound mind.” (Be smart) We will use precautions but we will remain spiritually connected.

We will meet for worship at both 10am and 1pm. We will make some changes to the way we observe
communion and we will be creative with our Congregational Greeting which will involve love gestures
but not hugging.

If you don’t feel well or not comfortable meeting in a group JOIN US ONLINE!!!

Continue to support your church financially, whether or not you are able to attend.

Our Founder, Rev. Elder Troy Perry, told his pastor that he is choosing to stay home during this time, but
he is going to be watching his church’s service every Sunday morning and “Don’t you worry, I’m sending
my tithe check every week!” Spiritual and practical leadership from our founder.

During this time of anxiety and uncertainty let us reach out to those we don’t see. Call. Text. Stay
connected. Let us know what you need. Some will have more challenges than others but together we
will make it through this. You may need, more than ever, to be the hands and feet of God.

At the Board meeting we will discuss what the body wants to do as we move forward over the weeks
ahead. We may choose to continue to meet weekly. We may choose to meet virtually. No matter
what, WE WILL STILL MEET! We will NOT become disconnected out of fear. We do not choose a spirit
of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind.

This is a time for us to live into our calling as God’s Loving People and to model what caring and
compassion looks like to our members, friends, allies, supporters, neighbors and, indeed, the world.
If you have ideas, concerns or need to see me please contact me at pastor@mccsa.org

Looking forward to what God has in store.
Love and blessings
(Thanks to my friend, the Rev. Pat Langlois, Senior Pastor of MCC in the Valley, for these ideas)
